Enzymes for Research, Diagnostic and Industrial Use

2-Methyl-L-cysteine Hydrochloride

Cat No.
CEGZ-6926
Description
2-Methyl-L-cysteine hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of an α-methylated cysteine analogue in which the α-hydrogen is replaced by a methyl group, generating a quaternary α-carbon. The free thiol side chain retains the characteristic reactivity of cysteine.
Applications
Used as a building block and intermediate in peptide and medicinal chemistry research for the preparation of α-methylated, protease-resistant peptide analogues containing thiol functionality.
Product Overview
α-Methylation of cysteine restricts local backbone conformation and increases resistance to enzymatic degradation, while the thiol group remains available for disulfide formation or alkylation, making this derivative useful in the design of constrained, stabilized peptides.
