Detection of DNA hybridization with Nanozymes

  • Au nanozymes possess GOx-like properties, and they have a high affinity to single-stranded DNA (ss-DNA) through the gold-sulfur bond, which limits their GOx-like catalytic ability. Compared with ss-DNA, the binding capacity between double-stranded DNA (ds-DNA) and Au nanozymes is relatively weak. Au nanozymes can still retain high enzymatic activity in the presence of ds-DNA.

  • Combining the enzymatic capacity and the affinity between ss-DNA and ds-DNA of Au nanozymes, Creative Enzymes develops a novel nano plasmonic probe to detect DNA hybridization.

  • Since graphene also exhibits different affinities for ss-DNA and ds-DNA, graphene can be used to effectively distinguish between ss-DNA and ds-DNA. In addition, the hemin component has a unique peroxidase-like character.
