Carnauba Wax

Cat No.
EXTZ-915
Description
Carnauba Wax is a natural plant wax obtained from the leaves of the carnauba palm (Copernicia prunifera), which grows in northeastern Brazil. The wax is collected by drying and beating the leaves, then melting, filtering, and refining the crude wax into food-grade material. It is the hardest natural wax known, with a high melting point of 81-86°C, and is supplied as pale yellow to brownish brittle flakes or fine powder. Chemically it consists mainly of esters of long-chain fatty acids and alcohols, wax acids, and hydrocarbons. Carnauba wax is prized for its outstanding gloss, hardness, and film-forming properties: it is used as a glazing and surface-finishing agent for confectionery and fruit, as a texturizer and structuring wax in lipsticks, balms, and decorative cosmetics, as a coating and polishing agent for tablets, leather, and floors, and as a bloom inhibitor in chocolate and compound coatings.
