Function

Applicable to susceptible strains including hemolytic streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus except methicillin-resistant strains, Haemophilus influenzae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Proteus mirabilis. It is described for adult acute pharyngitis or tonsillitis, acute otitis media, maxillary sinusitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, acute bronchitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, and uncomplicated Neisseria gonorrhoeae urethritis and cervicitis; for children, it is described for pharyngitis or tonsillitis, acute otitis media, and impetigo. It is also described for treatment of lower respiratory tract infections including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, skin and skin-structure infections, bone and joint infections, bacteremia or septicemia, central nervous system infections, intra-abdominal infections including peritonitis, and gynecological infections including pelvic inflammatory disease.
