Description

Euglena has a green, spindle-shaped form, about 50μm long and 10μm wide, with a blunt front end and a pointed back end. It has a cytostome at the front of the organism, and a large, round nucleus located in the middle to rear part of the cell body. When alive, it is transparent. The surface is covered with an elastic, diagonally striped pellicle. Euglena is also a highly adaptable organism that can survive under harsh environmental conditions.
