Requires G-protein for activation and therefore belongs to the family of G-protein-dependent receptor kinases (GRKs). All members of this enzyme subfamily possess a highly conserved binding site for 1-phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate. (cf. EC 2.7.11.14, rhodopsin kinase and EC 2.7.11.15, β-adrenergic-receptor kinase).
