Description

Lipase for biodiesel is an enzyme specifically developed by us for oil–water reaction systems; it remains highly stable in the presence of water. The enzymatic transesterification requires water, which may be present as free water, the moisture contained in the methanol feedstock, or water deliberately added to the medium. The added water and the oil phase form an oil–water interface, and the enzyme catalyzes the reaction at this interface. Consequently, the overall reaction rate is governed by (i) the efficiency with which the oil and water phases are mixed and (ii) the effective interfacial concentration of the enzyme.
