long-chain Inulin

Cat No.
EXTZ-901
Description
Long-chain Inulin is a natural polysaccharide belonging to the fructan group, composed of D-fructose units linked by beta-(2,1) glycosidic bonds with a terminal glucose unit. With an average degree of polymerization (DP) of 23, this long-chain grade inulin is extracted and purified from chicory root (Cichorium intybus). It appears as a white to off-white, odorless powder with a neutral to slightly sweet taste. As a water-soluble dietary fiber, it serves as an excellent prebiotic that selectively promotes the growth of beneficial bifidobacteria and lactobacilli. In food applications, long-chain inulin functions as a texture enhancer, fat replacer, and sugar substitute, contributing to improved mouthfeel, creaminess, and shelf-life stability. At concentrations above 25% in water, it forms a creamy gel structure that mimics fat texture. In cosmetic formulations, it acts as a natural prebiotic and skin conditioning agent, supporting a healthy skin microbiome by selectively nourishing beneficial epidermal bacteria. Its humectant properties bind water molecules to improve skin hydration, while its film-forming ability helps reduce transepidermal water loss and strengthens the skin's protective barrier. These characteristics make it particularly suitable for formulations targeting sensitive, dry, and atopic skin. The product is stable at room temperature, biodegradable, and well-aligned with clean beauty and natural formulation trends.
