Native Human Elastase (ELANE / ELA2) is a 28.5 kDa serine protease purified from human neutrophils. Supplied as a purified protein in 50 mM sodium acetate, pH 5.5 containing 150 mM sodium chloride. Specific activity is greater than or equal to 20 U/mg protein and purity is greater than 95% by SDS PAGE. Elastase is a serine protease that hydrolyses elastin and is also present in the pancreas, leucocytes and serum.

Serine protease (serine-type endopeptidase); hydrolyses elastin, MeO-Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Val-pNA and related synthetic substrates.

Unit Definition

One unit hydrolyses one µmole per minute of MeO-Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Val-pNA at 25 °C, in 100 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5 with 500 mM NaCl.

Store at -20 °C only. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the protein. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
