Description
The decrease of collagen in the dermis is considered the primary cause of wrinkle formation in the human body. Therefore, if skin synthesis of collagen can be promoted, it would effectively reverse aging and reduce wrinkles.
Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is a signaling peptide that precisely mimics the cleavage product of pro-collagen α1 chain, known as Matrikines (signaling peptides). It is termed as micro-collagen by activating certain genes involved in extracellular matrix renewal and cell proliferation processes, promoting the generation of type I and type III collagen as well as fibronectin. This increases skin thickness and reduces fine lines.
Applications
In zebrafish genetic testing, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 was shown to promote the synthesis of Coll1a1a, a collagen gene, with anti-wrinkle effects.
The results of zebrafish gene test showed that palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 can promote the synthesis of elastin gene eln1, and has the effect of firming.
It is mainly used in cosmetic products to reduce eye and forehead wrinkles.
