Description

Polysorbate 20 (Tween-20) is a nonionic surfactant with the chemical name polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monolaurate. It appears as a clear, yellow to amber-colored, oily or viscous liquid. It is an oil-in-water (O/W) emulsifier that is readily soluble in water, ethanol, and other polar solvents, but poorly soluble in mineral oil and light petroleum.
Its USP/NF grade complies with pharmacopoeial standards and is suitable for use in pharmaceuticals and food products. In biotherapeutic products, it is used as a stabilizer to prevent protein aggregation.
