Hydrolases (EC 3.x.x.x) are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of a chemical bond, usually dividing a large molecule into two smaller molecules. The reaction is: A-B + H2O → A-OH + B-H. Common hydrolases include esterases, proteases, glycosidases, nucleosidases, and lipases.
