Narrow endopeptidase specificity. Cleaves Pro-Leu-Ala-Gln-Ala┼Val-Arg-Ser-Ser-Ser in the membrane-bound, 26-kDa form of tumour necrosis factor α (TNFα). Similarly cleaves other membrane-anchored, cell-surface proteins to "shed" the extracellular domains
